What is a HydraFacial and how is it different from a normal facial?

A HydraFacial is a multi-step treatment that cleanses, gently exfoliates, clears congested pores and then floods the skin with hydrating serums, all in one session.

A HydraFacial is a multi-step treatment that cleanses, gently exfoliates, clears congested pores and then floods the skin with hydrating serums, all in one session. A traditional facial is largely manual and relaxation-led. A HydraFacial is results-led.

The mechanical difference

A traditional facial is delivered by hand — cleansing, massage, a mask, moisturiser — and much of its value is in the hour itself. A HydraFacial uses a device that performs each step in sequence, with controlled suction lifting debris out of the pores while serums go in. The therapist still guides every pass; the device makes the extraction step consistent in a way hands cannot.

It is not a chemical peel. Peels work by removing a layer of skin and come with recovery time, redness and peeling. A HydraFacial exfoliates gently and there is no downtime — most people go straight back to their day.

What that means for you

  • More visible change on the day. Brighter, smoother, plumper skin that you can see when you leave.
  • Less of a nap. It is a pleasant hour but it is not primarily a relaxation treatment. If switching off is what you want, book the Deluxe Facial.
  • Better on congestion. The extraction step is the part a traditional facial cannot match.
  • No downtime. Mild pinkness at most, gone within the hour.

Does it hurt?

No, though the extraction step is the part people notice. Over congested areas — usually the nose and chin — it feels like a firm tugging or a mild scratching as debris lifts out. It is uncomfortable for seconds rather than painful, and it stops the moment the therapist moves on. Everything either side of it is warm water, gentle suction and serum, which most people find pleasant enough to fall asleep through.

Tell your therapist if anything is sore. Suction strength is adjustable and no part of this has to be endured.

Which one is “better”?

Neither, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something. They answer different questions. If your skin is congested, dull or dehydrated and you want to see a difference, book a HydraFacial. If you are tired, tense and want an hour of hands-on care, the Deluxe Facial at £85 is the better hour and costs less.

What a session involves

Every visit begins with a short skin consultation, so the treatment suits your skin on the day rather than following a fixed script. Treatments take place in a private room. HydraFacial Light runs 30 minutes at £95; HydraFacial Plus runs 60 minutes at £145, with more time on the areas that need it.
