What to Wear to Yoga: Expert Tips From A Yoga Teacher

Yoga is not just a physical activity; it’s a holistic practice that involves the mind, body, and spirit. At Floatwell, we understand the significance of proper attire in optimising your yoga experience. The right clothing can make a substantial difference in your comfort, flexibility, and overall satisfaction during yoga sessions. We asked our very own yoga teacher at Floatwell, Gina Smith, for some of her expert tips on what to wear.

Tops

“When it comes to tops for yoga, breathability and moisture-wicking properties are crucial. Opt for tops that allow your skin to breathe and efficiently manage perspiration. This can significantly enhance your comfort and prevent any distractions during your practice. Consider wearing a well-fitted tank top, a supportive sports bra for women, or a loose-fitting shirt that allows for unrestricted movement.” Gina explains.

Bottoms

“Choosing the right bottoms for your yoga session is equally important. Look for leggings, yoga pants, or shorts crafted from stretchy, flexible fabrics. These garments should provide ample freedom of movement, allowing you to comfortably transition between different poses. Yoga teachers emphasise the significance of unrestricted movement during yoga practice, and your choice of bottoms plays a pivotal role in achieving this at Floatwell.” Says Gina.

Footwear

“One of the unique aspects of yoga is the preference for bare feet during practice. This allows for a better connection with the ground and promotes stability and balance. When it comes to transitioning to and from the studio, slip-on shoes or sandals are recommended for convenience. These can be easily slipped off before entering the studio, enabling you to seamlessly immerse yourself in the yoga experience at Floatwell.” Gina continues.

Accessories

“In addition to clothing, certain accessories can further enhance your yoga experience. Consider using a sweat-absorbing headband to keep perspiration at bay, especially during more dynamic yoga sessions. For individuals with longer hair, securing it with hair ties or clips can prevent any interference during poses. It’s also advisable to bring a water bottle to stay hydrated and a small towel for personal use during class. These small additions to your yoga ensemble can make a significant difference in your overall comfort and focus.” Says Gina.
